MISSION

Do you have a passion for the natural world, for capturing compelling photographs, and for overland exploration? Now there is an organization that aims to check all the boxes. Overland Adventure Photographers (OLAP) is a club geared toward the adventurous in spirit, and those who dare to explore — even more — when the pavement ends, and the dirt begins.

Annual membership includes exclusive, members-only access to join in a variety of western road trips throughout the year. These small group adventures include an emphasis on developing photographic skills, and enjoying the camaraderie unique to the great outdoors.

Astrophotography is a feature of many of these multi-day excursions. And with password access, members can view trip details, pricing, and book the club's scheduled road trips, along with other activities, all in one place online. Are you ready to take your photography on the road?

Member Application:
You can begin the membership application process by filling out our questionnaire, that allows you to introduce yourself, share your interests, and your experience, both in overlanding, and photography. We strive to create a community of like-minded explorers whose shared interests create an enjoyable traveling experience.  After reviewing your application, and should you look like a good fit, we will schedule a personal phone call to further discuss the club, and answer any of your questions, before we collect your membership dues.

Member Dues:
$75 Annual OLAP membership fee. Membership includes a welcome kit, an OLAP sticker you'll actually want to put on your rig, schedule of annual road trips, periodic updates, overlanding and photography tips, trip videos, and more

OLAP Annual Road Trips (All travel conducted within the western United States):

  • Number of Trips:
An average of six OLAP road trips will be scheduled per calendar year.

  • Group Size:
Our road trips are generally limited from four to six vehicles, so that we can easily maneuver and find prime camping locations. We do plan on holding an annual round up for all who can attend, in an area that can accommodate a larger gathering.

  • Length of Trips:
Road trips will range from two to five days (and nights), and average three to four days per trip.

  • Locations: Some trips will include destinations within a single western state, while others will involve destinations in two or more states. The nature of these trips allows for flexiblity to adjust our routes and points of interest en route.

  • Terrain:
Highway and off road, including deep sand. This is overlanding, not rock crawling. We want to access amazing places, we don’t want to get stuck or break something.

  • Vehicles:
We welcome, vans, SUVs, Jeeps, all with four wheel drive, high clearance, and appropriate tires, that can safely navigate narrow, or rough off-road trails. Only tow adventure trailers if you are experienced at maneuvering them on trail. Have some way to self recover on trail (winch, Max Trax, snatch rope, etc.) For deep sand and washboard we recommend airing down your tires, and you will need a way to air them back up.

  • Rentals:
Most of you will want to drive your own rig, but if you are flying in for one of our adventures, we provide you with a list of outfitters who can set you up with a capable set of wheels to suit your needs.

  • Camping:
Dispersed camping*, and occasional campgrounds along our route.
*Dispersed camping is the term used for camping anywhere OUTSIDE of a designated
campground. Dispersed camping means no services: such as trash removal, and little or no facilities, such as tables and fire pits. Using established sites is always encouraged, and always obey all fire bans or restrictions, including Leave No Trace practices.

  • Activity Level:
Most trips will involve physical activity, which could include short hikes, or day hikes at higher altitude in Alpine environments, or navigating sandy, rocky and steeper terrain. Each trip will clearly detail the mission.

  • Trip Pricing:
Trip prices range from $500–$2,500 based on length of trip. Does not include food, beverages, tolls, park fees, or extra group activities (i.e., guided tours, rafting, etc.).
