My Teaching Style

I strongly believe that living-in-the-moment, creates a mindful and deliberate experience. An experience that takes away more from a place than simply images. I hope to share with you my passion, not only for capturing compelling photography, but being yourself, “captured” by the beauty and awe of a place.

It is my privilege to share with you my knowledge of photography. My goal is to provide a positive environment that nurtures your art, and grounds you in best practices through instruction, tips and techniques that allow you to pursue creativity more freely.

My workshops are adventurous and enjoyable. I give you maximum time in the field. But be sure, I also allow you to rest and recover –– don’t want any cranky photographers.

There is no arguing that golden hour light is wonderful, but I will also teach you how to maximize any lighting scenario, simply because we don’t always have the luxury of creating images in golden hour or under perfect lighting for that matter. During our down time, we will rest, talk shop, or simply enjoy camaraderie with like-minded folks.

So that I give you the most well-rounded educational experience, I include three hours of private Skype post-processing, and/or critique of your work after every workshop. This way, I can provide you with highly personalized attention for what you want or need to cover. I think you will enjoy this style of learning.

My workshop road trip adventures are designed to fill you with memories, as you fill your memory cards with unforgettable images.

What to Expect

You will visit three iconic destinations on this southwest adventure–your chance to explore and photograph mesmerizing landscapes, and other-worldly rock formations. With monsoon season at hand, and dark skies overhead, you may be presented with a unique opportunity to
experience conditions at White Pocket ideal for dramatic landscapes and nightscapes, including natural pools of water for amazing reflections.

Christine will set up and demonstrate her star tracker at White Pocket. If you are capable of editing multi-image blends, you may demo the tracker for your own long exposure Milky Way capture. Creativity is encouraged, including stacking, time lapses, longer bulb exposures, and star trails.

Expect light to moderate hikes of several miles in mostly desert environments. You should be in reasonably good physical condition. While trails are not difficult, expect deep sand and rocks.

Topics include

  • Blue hour foregrounds

  • Single exposure nightscapes

  • Low Level Lighting, and natural light techniques

  • Nightscape and landscape compositions

  • Focus stacking, and other technical considerations

  • Bracketing for sunrise and sunset

  • Using filters, etc.
